Monitoring the immigration system
The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration is appointed to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the UK's border and immigration functions in the UK and abroad. He reports annually to the Home Secretary and his reports are published.
The Chief Inspector does not consider individual cases. However, he may take note of the key issues of an individual case and use these to inform his wider inspection programme.
Reports cover a range of Home Office immigration functions, including decision-making processes, quality of decisions, and how various elements of the system are working.
