Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC)
Most advisers and organisations need to apply to the OISC for authorisation to provide immigration advice or services.
However, many education providers and Points Based System sponsors are exempt from the need to apply for authorisation.
They do remain subject to OISC regulation and all advisers must comply with the OISC's:
- Code of Standards
- Guidance on Competence
- Complaints Scheme
If you provide immigration advice and services it is advisable to work through these documents and identify any areas where you might need to develop new policies or change existing practices.
Providing information or signposting a student to other sources of advice is not 'immigration advice or services'. However, providing advice that is tailored to a student's particular situation is advice and is regulated by the OISC.
Does each situation involve providing information or advice?
