OISC block exemption for education

The educational institutions listed below are exempt from the requirement to apply to the OISC for authorisation.

  • Higher Education Institutions, defined as:
    • universities and other bodies authorised to award degrees by Royal Charter or Act of Parliament,
    • colleges and other institutions providing approved courses for degrees awarded by such bodies, and
    • the constituent colleges of universities which are such bodies
  • Further education corporations in England and Wales and the equivalent in Scotland and Northern Ireland
  • Students' unions of exempt institutions
  • Independent schools

This exemption is contained in a Ministerial Order.

If your institution is covered by this exemption, and you are an immigration adviser, you can provide immigration advice and services in any area in which you are competent. This will usually depend on your experience, training and qualifications.
