What is leave to remain?

• Permission ('leave') to remain in the UK – applied for inside the UK
• Usually takes the form of a biometric residence permit (BRP) or it can be a residence permit (sticker) in the passport or travel document

How do people apply for it?

• Online with documents submitted by post or in person
• By post with a paper application form
• In person using a paper form

Who decides?

• Home Office caseworkers:
  • at premium service centres around the UK (if the application is made in person)
  • in Sheffield (if application is made or documents are sent by post)
